FKJ - Just Piano

Social media does have its benefits. One of those benefits is the ability to find music you might have missed otherwise. The drum n bass producer, Hugh Hardie, recently posted a story on his IG, in which he was lazing on an outdoor sofa in the soft afternoon sun, his most incredibly cute and beautiful dog Daphne at his side. Great-looking situation. The music playing over the story was beautiful piano perfectly suited to the scene. And this is where I first heard FKJ - Sundays (Just Piano Version).

Cue up the entire album, Just Piano, a 20-minute EP from 2021 of what it says on the box - just, well, piano. It is a perfect antidote to crazy madness when you need it, and is highly recommended if you're dabbling in gentle piano with luscious chords, the soulful score to a sultry Sunday afternoon.

You may already be a fan of FKJ, but he was new to me. I do have him as a co-producer on a few tracks from Moses Sumney's album, Grae. And upon further investigation, FKJ, otherwise known as French Kiwi Juice, co-wrote and co-produced the super-hit Tadow by Masego. That's the one that gives you tingles when the sax riff slides into your DMs. FKJ's usual style is jazzy-electronic-soulful-pop kinda jams. His 2022 album, Vincent, features Little Dragon and Toro y Moi. Get the vibe?

So if you're looking for solo piano, and not quite ready to saunter into classical or neo-classical territory, then Just Piano hits right.
